The A Level programme at Worth continues to be very popular and highly successful. Indeed in 2017, Year 13 students achieved an overall pass rate for A* - B equivalent for A Levels and IB combined of 71%.
Traditionally, students begin their A Level course by taking four AS subjects in Year 12, reducing to three subjects at A2 Level in Year 13. Teaching is in small groups and there are usually seven lessons per subject per week. There are currently 22 subjects on offer and details of the courses may be found in the Sixth Form Options Handbook and also on the Awarding Body websites, from which specimen material may be downloaded
The structure of the A Level courses was revised in September 2008. In many subjects there are now four modules: two at AS and two at A2. The final A Level grade reflects performance in all four modules. To achieve the A* grade, students have to gain an A grade in their A Level overall plus a score of 90% or more in their A2 modules. The assessment pattern at Worth is such that most Year 12 students take their first modular examinations in the summer of Year 12, with a resit opportunity, if necessary, in the following January. Most A2 examinations take place in the summer of Year 13.
Sixth Form studies are supported by a large number of academic societies and activities which serve to extend the curriculum, both broadening and deepening the students' knowledge and experience. The Worth Lecture Series invites visiting speakers from a wide range of prestigious universities and institutions to address the Sixth Form on a broad selection of topics. In addition, Worth hosts an annual Ethics and Enterprise Conference in June and throughout the year there are meetings of the Stanton Society (History), the Walter Monckton Society (Economics) and the On Tap Society (Religious Studies) at which high level speakers challenge and inform their audiences. There is also a full programme of field work and opportunities for Sixth Formers to attend conferences, lectures and subject related meetings in London, throughout the UK and abroad.
