Worth athletes enjoy a golden day
Worth enjoyed a bumper set of results at the Sussex Schools Athletics Championships, including four gold medals.
There were 11 medallists in total with three silvers and four bronze, plus a further three Worth students just missed out on a medal in fourth place.
This was an excellent set of results and continued a hugely successful year for Worth athletes. A record number of boys and girls from the School had been selected for the Sussex Schools Athletics Championships at the K2 in Crawley, where they were up against all the top athletes in the county.
There were gold medals for Daniel T (high jump), Adaeze O (100m), Oscar C (triple jump) and Tom B (1500m), silvers for Niall Q (discus), Emil F (800m) and Daniel P (hurdles), plus bronze for Oliver D (200m), Zac C (discus), Dillon Q (800m) and Alfred L (triple jump). In addition, Leo C (long jump), William B (1500m) and Casper C (hurdles) finished fourth in their events, while many other athletes reached finals and produced personal best performances in a highly competitive environment.
Those intermediates or juniors who were placed first or second will be representing Sussex in the Inter Counties meeting this weekend and the gold medallists will also be in contention for a place in the team to go to the English Schools’ National Championships. Daniel jumped 1.78m in the high jump, which is the National Standard for his age group, while Adaeze was very close to the National Standard in her event and will hope to achieve it at the next meeting.
Well done to all the students who were great ambassadors for the School.
