A fabulous night of debating

Worth School

Our annual school versus alumni debate was a fantastic evening which showcased the strength of debating at Worth.

The gala evening included a Senior Debating Society team, including two Year 11 students, taking on a team of Old Worthians, which included three recent leavers who were active members of the society while at Worth. The judging panel included two more alumni, plus Mrs Julie Fleming, Head of Economics and Business, who stepped in at the last moment.

A hugely enjoyable evening saw the team of current students adjudged winners. The motion was:  This house believes that lab grown meat must be embraced as part of the protein intake of the western world.

Worth runs a thriving Debating Society and there have been several successes to celebrate in recent years including winning the Ethics Cup, a national debating competition, in 2022 and the Hartland International Debating Competition in 2024.

Debating helps develop a range of skills including presentation, critical thinking, structuring thoughts and public speaking.
