Our football programme at Worth is designed to give players the opportunity to play in different environments and experience fresh challenges to further their development, including playing fixtures against local non-league clubs.
Last Thursday our U15A footballers were given the chance to play under floodlights away to Crawley Down Gatwick, a club which the School has strong links with.
Worth’s footballers played a Crawley Down Gatwick U16 side to stretch and challenge them ahead of playing in the Independent Schools Football Association Cup in the second half of term.
Cheered on by parents in the stands, the boys gave an excellent account of themselves with a team which featured U14 and U15 players up against boys either a year or two years older. Although Worth lost the match, the boys played with courage and skill, scoring two goals, as well as enjoying an excellent development opportunity.
Football is the largest team sport at Worth in terms of participation, with the school fielding more than 20 boys’ and girls’ sides from under 13s to under 18s. Football at the School is led by Mr Daniel Collins, a UEFA A licence coach who has managed and coached in the non-league and academy system, as well as managing Great Britain to glory in the World Medical Championships on four occasions.
Worth’s U18s boys will enjoy a similar experience away to Crawley Down Gatwick in November.
