Heart & Soul

Worth School

An education with heart and soul, which is what we aspire to at Worth, equips young people to see the value of things, to exercise good judgement and enjoy the fruits of imagination throughout their lives. Lived out at school, our values encourage pupils to be ambitious, to strive for academic success and to develop a love of learning.

But they go further. They encourage pupils to be self-aware, to become more centred individuals, conscious both of their strengths and their weaknesses, and able to separate beauty, truth and goodness from noise and distraction.

Pupils are encouraged to live in the present, to value the small, day-to-day moments of life and not always be looking impatiently to the next thing. Worth pupils learn that while living in a community requires effort, that effort brings great rewards, such as a strong sense of belonging and a desire to see justice for everyone in society.

    Faith & Values

Values, unlike outcomes, are not always easy to measure, but they have a deep impact and are fundamental to the formation of who we become as people, which is why we place them at the centre of the education we offer at Worth.

    History

The origins of Worth lie in the foundation in 1606 of the English Benedictine community of St Gregory’s at Douai, France, which in the 1930s went on to establish a second community and school at Worth, in West Sussex. Today, Worth School is thriving with some 675 pupils, encompassing boarding and day pupils, girls and boys.
