Another fantastic term for sport at Worth was reflected in the fact that a remarkable 430 students represented the School in matches, with 37 teams across a variety of sports playing 185 games.
There were highlights, of course, including the 1st XV rugby boys reaching the quarter-finals of the National Vase where a defeat left them with a record of 13 wins and one draw from 15 matches in league and national cup competition. However, that was just one highlight from the term.
The 2nd XV rugby boys (eight wins from eight) and the U16B team (five wins from five) both went unbeaten while the U15A rugby team enjoyed a fantastic 17-12 win against Maidstone Grammar School at the end of November to progress to an area final and last 16 of the National Bowl in the new year.
The mixed fencing team also went unbeaten but success came in other forms too. The School fielded separate U14 and U15 girls’ hockey teams for the first time (rather than a combined side), which is testament to the development of hockey at Worth, while the 1st XI hockey girls enjoyed a good season, with lots of close fought matches, many of which ended in draws, and the highlight was a monumental effort against Hurst in the National Plate where they lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
In the final week of term Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player awards were made for rugby, hockey and junior football, along with the presentation of Colours and Half Colours for hockey and rugby. Colours are the most prestigious sports awards at the School.
Here is a selection of pictures, showing some but not all of the winners from last week’s awards, as well as a gathering of the 1st XV rugby team.
Well done to all students who represented the School at sport in the Autumn Term.
