Chemistry students look in the mirror
Mon, Apr 13th, 2026
Year 12 Chemistry students explored a chemical reaction between silver nitrate and glucose and were impressed by the outcome when they undertook a silver mirror practical.
Known as the Tollens’ test, this is a qualitative laboratory test used to distinguish between an aldehyde and a ketone. The end result was a mirror-like coating forming on the inside of a flask.
GCSE and Sixth Form students can study Biology, Chemistry and Physics at work, with each subject led by inspiring teachers and taught in engaging ways.
