Former Worth student Claudie Cooper reached a few milestones in her cricket career this week.

Women’s cricket is really evolving with the advent of the regional professional set-up and The Hundred competition being a worldwide viewed event. Claudie, who was in St Catherine’s and left in 2020, has been an ever present in the Surrey Senior team for the last three years winning the London Cup at the Oval and also the London Championship in 2020. She has also been a part of the regional set-up, having captained the South East Stars Academy side last year.

This week was a notable week for Claudie as last Saturday she made her first appearance for the senior South East Stars side who are the current national T20 Champions. Playing the Southern Vipers at the beautiful Arundel Castle ground, Claudie’s first few overs were to England internationals Georgia Elwiss and Maia Bouchier and she bowled very tidily. Although her team lost, it was valuable experience playing against top players.

Then on Bank Holiday Monday Claudie played two T20 matches against Hampshire. Having bowled well trying to defend a low total in the first match, she then had the great honour of captaining the Surrey Senior side for the first time. Missing several players due to injury and workload restrictions, the side was probably the youngest Surrey side ever and they came agonisingly close, losing by just two runs in the last over.

Well done Claudie, we are proud of your achievements.
