Our Benedictine tradition

Worth School

Outstanding pastoral care for every individual boy and girl is at the heart of Worth School. Our distinctive Benedictine tradition and concern for the wellbeing of each individual is lived out by the school community in its day-to-day existence and is at the centre of life at Worth.

The House system is the pastoral focal point for pupils and parents. The House provides the community and sanctuary where the pupils can grow in confidence and fellowship with one another. Every boy and girl, day or boarding, is a member of a House under the leadership of a Housemaster or Housemistress who, supported by their Deputy and Matron, has overall responsibility for the pupil's pastoral care and welfare. In addition, every pupil is assigned a personal tutor with whom they meet at least five times a week, and very often more than this, to review and support their academic progress.

    Boarding

Living together enables young people to develop an understanding of and respect for others. The majority of senior pupils at Worth are boarders and the School is committed to remaining a traditional 7-day-a-week boarding school. All pupils in the boarding houses are full, not flexible or weekly, boarders, although some flexible boarding options are available for younger day boys.

    Day

Day pupils are fully engaged in the life of Worth School, including all activities on offer for boarders in the evening and at the weekend if they wish, and around half the boys and girls at Worth are day pupils. Flexible boarding options for boys are available in Butler House.

Every pupil, whether they have a religious faith or not, should leave Worth with a deeper sense of who they are and who they are called to be, with the ability to reflect on their lives and how they might make a positive difference in society.
