Worth fencers performed admirably, including one top eight finish, in the Public Schools Fencing Championships held over three days at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in London last week.

On day one, two Worth pupils competed with Faolan progressing through the first two poules into the elimination rounds before finishing 27th overall in Junior foil. Simon, meanwhile, was placed 68th in Senior epée.

Day two saw a five-strong team return to London for a busy day of competition. Four of those competed in the Senior foil with Jamie placing 29th, Simon 40th and Sebastian 65th. The best result of the day came from John who reached the quarter-finals where, suffering from cramp, he lost to a fencer who would finish second overall. John was eventually placed eighth which was the best result by a Worth fencer in the last five years.

Well done to all those who competed.

Fencing is offered at Worth both as part of the sports programme and as a co-curricular activity.
