Worth students impressed among strong opposition in the Cambridge Schools’ Debating Competition, which is one of the biggest schools’ debating competitions in the world.

Every year thousands of talented debaters take part in this event which is organised by the Cambridge Union, the oldest debating society in the world. The competition offers an excellent opportunity for students to develop their public speaking and critical thinking skills.

Unlike some other debating events, this competition sees students work as pairs, taking part in four debates throughout the day against multiple schools, each looking to progress to Finals Day at the historic Cambridge Union building, which has hosted speakers such as the Dalai Lama, US President Ronald Reagan, and Margaret Thatcher.

Although no Worth teams progressed, they performed admirably, with one pair winning one debate and finishing second in another, while another pair came second in two debates and third in another.

More importantly than outcomes, this competition gives our debaters great experience, which will stand them in good stead as they go forward in life.

Worth runs a thriving Debating Society for students of all ages, offering them different competitive experiences.
