Departing Head Boy and Head Girl signed off their time in those roles by speaking about how Worth has shaped them and how its purpose makes the School unique.
Speaking at Speech Day, Head Boy Eddie Clifford-Jones and Head Girl Florrie Jacob reflected on the memories they will take from Worth and their appreciation for what the School has given them.
Eddie said: “What makes Worth so meaningful to me is how much it has made me grow over the years. I came here as someone who was mostly interested in rugby and not much else, but this school encouraged me to branch out, challenge myself academically and discover passions and interests I never thought I would have when I first arrived. Things like competing in – and winning – University Challenge with my House are moments that would have felt completely out of reach back then.”
He continued: “Worth teaches you lessons that go far beyond academics. Values like stewardship, service and community are not just things you hear in assembly – they are actions you slowly pick up from being here. Whether it is looking to help the School environment grow and improve or taking the initiative to serve others before yourself, they begin to transform how you think and how you carry yourself. In a world that is rapidly changing – where so much is being shaped by technology and AI – those human values have never mattered more.”
Florrie spoke about how Worth gives its students purpose. She said: “Perhaps purpose grows so naturally here because Worth does not only educate its students – it knows them. It recognises every student has value and purpose following in the Christian faith that we are uniquely and wonderfully made, and whether you have a faith or not I think we can all agree there is an essence about this school that makes all of us feel known.
“That is why we are all gathered here today in this Abbey Church, families, colleagues and friends, each at completely different stages of life. Some of us sit here halfway through examinations, exhausted and uncertain of what lies ahead, others sit here for one of their final moments at Worth, aware that this chapter of life is slowly drawing to a close. Yet despite those differences, we are united by something far greater than routine or duty. We are united by the shared purpose this community has quietly built within us over our time. A purpose to celebrate milestones, to remember moments that shaped us and even to mourn the passing of a time in life we know we will never fully experience again. That is what this school does so remarkably, it moulds character slowly and carefully, piece by piece through its Benedictine values until one day we realise that this place has become part of who we are.”
Thank you to Florrie and Eddie for everything they have done in their leadership roles this year and for representing the School superbly. We wish them the best for their next steps in life.
