Inspiring day for Biology students

Tue, Mar 24th, 2026
Worth School

Sixth Form Biology students heard inspiring talks from leading scientists and professionals when they attended the annual Biology in Action conference in London.

The day at the Emmanuel Centre provided an opportunity for experts from across the field of biology to share their passion and insight, shining a light on cutting-edge research and current scientific issues. There was also a special session on exam success, giving students practical tools and tips to help them excel.

Hosted by Science journalist Greg Foot, the talks included ‘From Specimens to Skeletons: Reconstructing Pathogen Evolution with Ancient DNA’ with Dr Pooja Swali; ‘The Science of De-extinction’ with Dr Helen Pitcher; ‘Lessons from Lobsters: why some of us get cancer and others don’t’ with Dr Charlotte Mykura; and ‘Medtech on the brain’ with James Piercy. The talks were designed to link to the curriculum, expanding the students’ knowledge of biological matters.

With personal anecdotes, interactive polls and plenty of opportunities to put questions directly to the speakers, this was a fascinating day for our Year 12 Biology students.
