Music at Worth ready for a big year

Mon, Jan 13th, 2025
Worth School

Worth is well known for the high standard of its music provision and there is a lot to look forward to in 2025, starting with our first concert of the year later this week.

The core philosophy of the Music department at Worth is the balance of inclusion with excellence and the fostering of a welcoming musical community open to all. We are proud when students achieve outstanding results in examinations or secure a place in the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, and we are equally delighted to see so many students get involved with music through House competitions or our regular live lounge sessions.

The highlight of the year ahead for the Music department is the biennial music tour overseas, which this year will be to Lake Garda in Italy in the summer. This follows a tour to Austria in 2023 which included four concerts.

There is a lot taking place in the Lent Term at Worth, including our Scholars’ Concert on Thursday 13 March and our termly Ensembles Concert on Thursday 20 March. The Worth Musician of the Year competition, which celebrates musicians at Worth, reaches the semi-final stage this term while the Chamber Choir will be singing Evensong at Chichester Cathedral in March.

Worth also runs a programme of informal concerts, which allow students to perform in front of family members in a supportive environment, and the first one of 2025 takes place this Friday when the Informal Wind and Brass Concert is held in the Coleburt Room at 5.45pm.

The Schola Cantorum will lead the Lenten service of Tenebrae in the Abbey Church on Thursday 3 April, while House Bands – the second part of our annual House Music competition involving all nine senior Houses – takes place on Friday 28 February.

Our pictures are from the 2023 music tour to Austria and the most recent Ensembles Concert in November 2024.
