Our new library at Worth has resulted in a notable increase in the number of books being borrowed by pupils and a love of reading at the School is further supported by our regular Book of the Month competition.
Congratulations to Year 7 pupil Victoria Cole whose nomination of ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell has been chosen as our Book of the Month for June. The initiative was introduced at Worth to encourage an enjoyment of reading and promote books for pupils to read.
Victoria said of ‘The Explorer’: “This is a great adventure about four strangers who get lost in the Amazon jungle and become great friends. They learn many things along the way and meet some interesting people and animals.”
The new library at Worth is situated in our fabulous new Spencer Building, which also includes a Sixth Form Centre. Librarian Mrs Esmé Mustian Atkinson said: “Everyone loves our new library. The central ground floor location makes the library accessible to more people. There is good lighting and the beautiful shelving displays the books well.
“As a result more people are borrowing books! Sixth form students have been borrowing predominantly non-fiction books that support their studies. Middle school pupils tend to gravitate toward our revision guides and young adult fiction. Lower school pupils love reading our junior fiction. The new library is great for the reading culture in our school.”
