Worth Sixth Form students who performed particularly well in the British Physics Olympiad and the British Biology Olympiad have been honoured by the School.

A group of Worth students took part in the Physics Olympiad, which is run by Oxford University, last November. While there are five competitions a year, this is the main competition.

Students answer questions on Physics which is covered in the A Level and IB Higher Level curriculum, but in new situations they will never have come across. The questions test their critical thinking skills and are extremely challenging.

There were 1,800 entrants this year and one Worth student achieved a Silver award, missing out on Gold by one mark. This put him in the top 400 of those taking the papers.  Meanwhile, a number of other students from the School achieved Bronze awards.

A group of Year 12 students entered the Biology Olympiad, which is open to Year 13 students and is designed to stretch and inspire students with a passion for biology, encouraging them to deepen and extend their knowledge. Participants are presented with unfamiliar topics and ideas, requiring them to apply strong problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of core biological principles.

Two Worth students placed in the top 15% of students nationally and achieved a Bronze certificate, which is impressive as Year 12 students. Other students also performed extremely well.

Students who were successful in both Olympiads were presented with certificates in the final assembly of the Lent Term.
