Pre-IB (Age 15/16)

Academic
Worth School

A fully immersive one-year GCSE Pre-IB course.

The one-year Pre-IB programme is specifically designed to enable current Year 10 (age 15+) pupils who have been attending schools outside the UK to have a fully immersive experience in a full-time, 7-days-a-week boarding school and also to complete the core IGCSEs before progressing to either A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma, or perhaps to returning once more to their current school.

Pre-IB pupils are fully integrated into the broader life of the School, as members of a House, tutor group and also as participants in the huge range of co-curricular sports and activities that are on offer here at Worth. It is an immensely rewarding experience.

Course outline

The one-year Pre-IB programme is a challenging and exciting course that enables boys and girls to pass core IGCSEs and so enable them to progress into the Sixth Form for either the International Baccalaureate Diploma or the A Level programme. This involves an intensive year of study, enabling pupils to acquire between five and seven key IGCSE qualifications, and also fully engage in the wider boarding life of the School, with its outstanding co-curricular programme and pastoral support.

Pupils have a range of choices but are normally preparing to sit around six IGCSE examinations at the end of the Summer Term in the key subjects of English, Mathematics, at least one Science, Modern Language and one of the Humanities, with Chinese, Latin and Philosophy also taught. This is a rigorous academic course and results in previous years have been outstanding.

I visited different schools, but from the very first moment Worth was my number one. Everyone made me feel welcome and teachers were not only interested in my academic abilities and achievements, but equally, or even more, in my personality and passions.
