Following our recent ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) inspection, we were delighted to receive extremely positive feedback on pupils’ social awareness, wellbeing and their contribution to society.
The ISI report following our inspection in December made note of inspiring initiatives such as our community service, charity and outreach, our ‘Pupil Voice programme’ and the fascinating visiting speakers covering topics from finance awareness to Benedictine leadership and career options.
It cited: “Through the Wednesday afternoon community service programme, pupils help run drama sessions in local primary schools and visit the elderly. Others arrange the collection of clothes and food for the homeless” and “pupils engage in fundraising for charities such as the local hospice and CAFOD.”
Among the many examples are our work with the charity Mary’s Meals and particularly our sponsorship of a feeding programme at schools in Liberia and Zambia; our work with Crawley Open House supporting the homeless and people in need in the local area; our CAFOD Young Leaders programme; a recent Youth Enterprise Project initiative supporting St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley; and our association with Befriended, a charity which serves isolated, elderly people in Mid Sussex.
The report went on to say: “Older pupil leaders act as role models” and “help create a coherent sense of community within the houses and the school.
“Leaders encourage pupils to express their views. Through surveys and the school council, pupils readily offer their ideas for school improvement.”
As you would expect, pupils’ physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing was reviewed carefully. Here our values and strong spiritual ethos became evident.
Comments included:
“Leaders provide an extensive programme of physical education” and “pupils learn to value teamwork and participation.”
“Through PHSE and religious studies, pupils are taught about a wide range of faiths and belief systems.”
“Weekly collective worship, House prayers and Sunday Mass offer pupils time and space for private reflection.”
At Worth we believe education should seek to form people, both as individuals and as members of a community, and that is why our values are embedded in everyday life at the School.
