St Anne’s: A House with Heart

Nestled in the heart of the School, St Anne’s is more than just a girls’ day House – it is a sanctuary where students can rest, socialise and focus amidst the busyness of the school day. The girls of St Anne’s are known for their relaxed and welcoming nature, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie. It is a vibrant and happy House that celebrates individuality, embraces diversity and nurtures kindness, allowing every student to thrive and truly be herself.

The House offers a blend of common areas and study rooms, designed to support both social interaction and academic focus. Year 9 and 10 students share a common room, while Year 11 have dedicated study spaces. Years 12 and 13 have smaller study rooms accommodating groups of two to five. Additionally, two kitchen areas provide much-needed tea and toast to fuel students throughout the day.

At the heart of St Anne’s ethos is the motto ‘Gratiam et Sapientiam’ – Grace and Wisdom. These two virtues are deeply intertwined and serve as guiding principles for St Anne’s girls. Grace represents kindness, humility and the ability to navigate challenges with poise and generosity. It encourages students to treat others with respect, build positive relationships and foster a supportive community. Wisdom embodies the pursuit of knowledge, thoughtful decision-making and the ability to learn from experience. It encourages intellectual curiosity, resilience and the development of critical thinking skills. St Anne’s prides itself on its strong community spirit, where both staff and students offer support to one another in line with our motto.

Leadership and House Spirit

Leadership is an integral part of St Anne’s, with senior students playing vital roles in its smooth running. The Head of House and Deputy Head of House, supported by a team of Senior Prefects, take charge of organising social events and fostering House spirit. St Anne’s actively participates in a variety of inter-House competitions, from the electrifying House Shout to debating and drama. These events not only create lasting memories but also strengthen the bonds within the House.

The House Team

Guiding and supporting the students is a dedicated team of staff. The Housemistress, Mrs Caroline Burton, has led St Anne’s since September 2023. She has held several roles at Worth, including Biology and Science teacher, Assistant Head of Farwell and, most recently, Boarding Tutor in St Mary’s Middles. Through these experiences, she has gained valuable expertise that she now brings to her role. Mrs Burton is supported by an Assistant Housemistress and Mrs Wendy Crénel, the Matron.

The House’s pastoral and academic needs are met by a committed team, including a House Chaplain. The tutor team consists of Mrs Frances Baily (Year 9), Mrs Tanya Scorer (Year 10), Mrs Natalie Lynch (Year 11), Mrs Debora Finotti (Year 12) and Mrs Sarah Clarke (Year 13). Together, these staff members ensure that every girl in St Anne’s feels safe, heard and empowered to grow academically, spiritually and socially.
