St Anne’s

St Anne’s is a girls’ day House with a lot of heart. Situated in the middle of the School, St Anne’s is a haven for the students to rest and recuperate, socialise and work in the midst of a busy school day. St Anne’s girls are relaxed, welcoming and display a real sense of camaraderie. St Anne’s is a busy, happy House, embracing individuality, valuing difference and fostering kindness, where girls are able to thrive and truly be themselves.

The House has a mixture of common rooms with small pool tables and study rooms. Year 9 and 10 share a common room, Year 11 share a study room and 12s and 13s have smaller study rooms shared by two to five students. There are also two kitchen areas allowing the students access to much needed tea and toast to get them through the day.

The girls are encouraged to live by our motto: ‘Gratiam et Sapientiam’ (Grace and wisdom), inspiring them to allow God’s grace to give them the wisdom to overcome any obstacle. The House community is very strong and there is support from both staff and students alike. This area of service is particularly important and relates to the Rule of St Benedict on which the School bases its ethos. It is expected that all students treat each other with the kindness and respect that they would wish to receive.

Leadership is actively encouraged, with senior girls assuming roles vital to the smooth running of the House: Head of House and Deputy Head of House, supported by the remaining Senior Prefects. These girls help to organise social events and encourage the whole House to take part in a wide range of inter-House competitions ranging from the House Shout to Sports Day via debating and drama. These are fantastic events that really encourage House spirit and give the girls something fun to look forward to.

The Housemistress is Mrs Caroline Burton (pictured) who takes over from September 2023. She is a Biology teacher and Boarding House tutor in St Mary’s Middles. She is supported by Ms Lizzie Peters who teaches History and Politics as the Assistant Housemistress and Mrs Wendy Crenel who is the Matron. The House team, including a House Chaplain, take care of the students’ pastoral needs while the tutors support the girls in their academic endeavours. Together, these teams work to enable every student in St Anne’s to feel safe and secure, feel listened to and are empowered to be able to develop academically, spiritually and socially.
