Students were asked this morning to see the richness in front of them as Head Master Mr Stuart McPherson delivered a speech about new beginnings.
These are exciting times at Worth following this summer’s exam results which included some of the best GCSE results the School has ever achieved, some hugely impressive A Level results and the best IB Diploma average since 2017.
In his welcome back assembly this morning, Mr McPherson spoke about the importance of new beginnings and seizing the opportunities which Worth provides.
Mr McPherson told students: “School life is full of new beginnings. Three times a year, you start again. This morning is a chance for you to think about what new beginnings you would like to make this year.
“We all need new beginnings, they keep us alive, they are a chance for new resolutions, not just for you the students, but for me, the teachers, everybody. They are a chance for forgiveness, they are a chance to begin again. As you come into the school year, it is important you remember that we are in a kind of equation, a relationship of students and teachers, and a chance to remember as you go into your lessons tomorrow that your teachers want good things for you, even if that means that you get pushed and pulled away from what is comfortable. Comfortable is not an education and if that is your resolution then perhaps you want a chance to think about that this morning.
“You can leave last year behind you if you feel you need to do that and come into this year as a new you. You are one year older, if nothing else, than you were last year and getting older at your age at least comes every year with a new set of opportunities. Every year the richness grows in front of you, so my first piece of advice for you this morning is to keep your eyes open.”
