Three Worth students this week had the wonderful opportunity to compete in The Economics Olympiad national final, held at the SOAS Gallery in London.
From an initial entry of more than 4,000 students across the country, these three students progressed through two rounds to take their place in the final 50, which was a remarkable achievement in itself.
At the event, students tackled two demanding assessments designed to challenge even the brightest young economists, testing their analytical and evaluative skills alongside economic policy reasoning. Although our students did not place in the top 10 award winners on the day, all three performed exceptionally well and represented Worth with great distinction.
Head of Economics and Business Studies, Mr Dupoy, praised their efforts, adding: “I am so proud of their commitment and conduct throughout the competition.”
The finals also provided invaluable exposure to a wide range of economic perspectives, with a series of inspiring guest speakers. These included renowned development economist Ha-Joon Chang, who is well known for his critical perspectives on free-market policies; Linda Yueh, an economist and broadcaster who spoke about global economic trends and careers in the field; and Soumaya Keynes, a prominent economics journalist, who shared insights into economic policy and international trade. Their contributions made the experience both academically enriching and deeply memorable for all involved.
