Two of our A Level Media Studies students have been learning about careers in journalism through The Telegraph Media Literacy Programme.
Lexi and Rachel had to apply to be accepted on to this annual programme and for the last four weeks have been joining working journalists at The Telegraph online, discussing different areas of the media including news, travel, entertainments and sports journalism.
At the end of each session, the students are set a journalism challenge by one of the speakers in order to help develop their writing skills.
The aim of The Telegraph programme is to break down the barriers to careers in journalism and provide school students with the tools and skills to think critically about the media landscape.
Participants also have the opportunity to learn about The Telegraph future talent schemes which include work experience, apprenticeships and graduate programmes.
The girls said: “This has been a great opportunity for us. It has been really helpful to hear from journalists working in the industry and how they got into the journalism. It has also very much related to our Media Studies course.”
Media Studies was introduced as a Sixth Form option at Worth this academic year.
