Kind-hearted Year 12 students took on a wide range of service, outreach and leadership roles on Worth in the Community Day, ranging from spending time with isolated, elderly people to leading primary school children in fun activities, collecting food for the homeless and raising money for CAFOD through washing cars.
This annual initiative involves all Year 12 students volunteering their time to help with a programme of activities designed to support charities and schools in the area.
Activities included some students helping Befriended – a fabulous charity supporting isolated, elderly people in Mid Sussex – making lanterns for a visit to Glow Wild at Wakehurst followed by a lunch and sharing life stories. Another group were at Sainsbury’s in Crawley, collecting food and raising awareness for Crawley Open House, a charity supporting homeless and disadvantaged people in the area.
Some students were also in Crawley to support the mission work of Church Crawley by handing out leaflets for the charity Love Your Neighbour, some took on farm conservation roles on the Worth campus, some helped with gardening and others ran a car wash and refreshments stall to raise money for CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development.
We also had a large number of children from primary schools visit Worth to enjoy art, drama, music, sport and Forest School activities, which were led by our students, plus we ran a retreat for St Joseph’s Catholic High School in Slough. Worth also hosted the Good Shepherd Celebration for 800 primary school children in the Abbey Church, working with our partners in the Diocese.
At Worth we believe it is important that we develop an education framework which fosters a social conscience and a desire to give back to society, and Worth in the Community Day was a fabulous opportunity for Year 12 students to develop their servant hearted leadership skills.
Well done to all students who gave their time for others. You were a credit to the School.
