Worth School

“If anyone asks me now, I tell them that going to Worth was the best decision I have ever made in my life.” Three students who took the IB Diploma this summer have spoken about their time at Worth and how the School helped them.

Worth is among the UK’s leading schools for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Nearly a third of Sixth Form students choose to study the IB, which was introduced at Worth in 2002.

The IB, which offers a broader programme than A Levels, is recognised internationally and can help with applications to universities both in the UK and overseas.

This summer there was plenty to celebrate with Worth’s IB results. In this article, we spoke to three of our students about their results, how Worth helped them, their time at the School and their plans for the future.

One said: “The facilities, the supportive community and atmosphere helped me a lot to balance academics with my life outside of school.”

Another said: “Worth has this true atmosphere of peace where very little can distract you. Living in this haven definitely helps in achieving your goals.”

A score of 40 at IB is equivalent to four grade A* at A Level. Congratulations to all our students who took the IB Diploma this summer.

GUILHEM DE LASSUS

Which subjects did you take and what were your results? I studied Maths AA, Physics and Art at higher level with Geography, Spanish B and French A in standard level. Receiving a 6 in Art and French and 7s in the rest, my total score was 42.

How did you feel when you got your results? The realisation that what I had worked for in the past four years at Worth struck me. It was this bittersweet feeling of achieving something but also leaving something of me behind.

How did Worth help you achieve those results? A personalised tutoring and the constant in person availability of the teaching staff helped me make this last push to the top grades. More generally, Worth has this true atmosphere of peace where very little can distract you. Living in this haven definitely helps in achieving your goals.

How much have you enjoyed your time at Worth? Well further than just these academic results, Worth has offered me and many others so many possibilities, ranging from sports to arts, music to friendships, that I can without a doubt say I very much enjoyed my time there. It is hard to quantify this but I could not have asked for any better setting in which to finish my education.

What are you hoping to do next? I have decided to rethink what I want to study at university. In starting a gap year, I hope to pose the correct choice of subject (which now inclines toward PPE) as well as discovering the working world through various internships.

ANNABELLE DELISSEN

Which subjects did you take and what were your results? I took German A, Spanish B, Mathematics, Biology, History and Business and received a score of 41 points.

How did you feel when you got your results? I was extremely relieved and equally happy after such a nerve-wrecking wait after the exams.

How did Worth help you achieve those results? Worth provided a very supportive environment. Especially as a boarder, the facilities, the supportive community and atmosphere helped me a lot to balance academics with my life outside of school. The dedication of the teachers who were always ready to help and gave all possible support additionally helped me a lot during my study period.

How much have you enjoyed your time at Worth? I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Worth. Through the amazing opportunities that the school offers like clubs, volunteering, sport and much more, I have made memories and friends that will hopefully last a lifetime.

What are you hoping to do next? I am going to university in Italy where I will study Global Law which will hopefully someday allow me to be part of international organisations promoting peace within countries.

CORRADO NAUMANN

Which subjects did you take and what were your results? My IB subjects were HL German, Biology, Global Politics, and SL Mathematics, History, English. My overall IB score was 40.

How did you feel when you got your results? I was very relieved and unbelievably happy at the same time. As I had been very anxious and nervous before, it was an incredible feeling to have all that stress lifted from my shoulders when I received my results.

How did Worth help you achieve those results? Worth provided me with ideal and functional workspaces, most importantly the Spencer building. The support and help I received from tutors and teachers was also vital. They were very forthcoming and always keen to help. Even though it was obviously stressful during exam season, Worth helped me to successfully overcome exams and assignments set by the IB, in a way that I learned and flourished from them.

How much have you enjoyed your time at Worth? I had the time of my life at Worth. I joined in Year 11 and the last three years have been an incredible experience. If anyone asks me now, I tell them that going to Worth was the best decision I have ever made in my life.

What are you hoping to do next? I am planning on studying Law in Germany. I have yet to decide between the Humboldt University in Berlin and the University of Passau. As I am still unsure, I am also looking at potentially taking a gap year and applying to some other universities next year.
