Worthian cricketer shining for Yorkshire

Former Worth 1st XI cricketer Claudie Cooper is making a big impression at Yorkshire County Cricket Club after switching from Surrey last winter.

Claudie is the county’s leading wicket-taker so far this term and has taken at least two wickets in every game this season apart from last Thursday’s Metro Bank One Day Cup win over Leicestershire when she only managed one.

She also has the remarkable statistic of taking a wicket in her first over in each of her first five appearances for the county. Then on Sunday she took an outstanding catch to dismiss danger player Grace Scrivens as Yorkshire beat Essex to reach the quarter-finals of the national cup.

The off-spinner moved to Yorkshire from Surrey after not getting regular game time for regional team South East Stars.

She said: “It’s been really good. I’ve been in and about the wickets, which is always nice.

“I think coming from a team where I wasn’t really playing to coming here and having quite a big job – opening the bowling and things like that – I’ve been happy with that.”

Claudie’s success will act as an inspiration to the next generation of female cricketers at Worth. Girls’ cricket is growing at the School and this academic year we have four girls-only teams from U13s up to 1st XI.

We are proud of Claudie and are delighted to follow her ongoing achievements.
